Alleged underpayment of mushroom pickers fair work test case was adjourned

MEXICO CITY, Feb 20 (Reuters) – Mexican customs officials who detained a Mexican-based mushroom picker who sought to pay a $2.5 million fraud penalty were justified in taking him into custody after an FBI tip led them to his property, prosecutors said on Wednesday.
Citing government sources, Reuters said prosecutors in Mexico City had arrested 37-year-old Raul Alvarez, a lawyer who had served as the chief of the customs office in the state of Zihuatanejo from 2011 to 2014.
On Tuesday, Mexican federal prosecutors said that Alvarez, of the state of Alta Grande in northwestern Mexico, had defrauded the government in its handling of an alleged $2.5 million mushroom collection fraud and would pay $1 million to the Mexican government and $1 million to his victims.
The alleged scheme involved Alvarez, a member of a state police special forces unit in Zihuatanejo, claiming the money was paid as mushroom pickers who collected as much as 50 pounds of mushrooms and storing them in vaults on his property.
Prosecutors say he used a local customs agent to conduct searches of his home in Zihuatanejo in April 2011, seized a collection of 2,600 jars filled with $1,600,000 worth of mushrooms and sold the rest of the money that was held in storage vaults for $13,000, the amount he allegedly misappropriated, according to prosecutors.

바카라Man rescued after cliff fall
A woman in her mid-40s was rescued from a cliff by a rescue boat after becoming stuck in it.
The woman, believed to be a passenger of a small boat, slipped and fallen off the side of a cliff at Llanratham in Ceredigion shortly after 11pm yesterday.
Herald reporter James Davies said the woman was discovered on a rock ledge with a broken arm, head injuries and deep cuts.
She was taken to Ceredigion Hospital where a GP diagnosed her with the wounds caused by a falling fall.
It is believed the woman fell from the cliff while trying to navigate to safety and was caught up in the flow of water from nearby rocks.
She was initially reported missing but police later confirmed she had not been seen.
The family of the woman from Colyvian in Ceredigion has been notified of her recovery by family and friends.
The rescue operation, which cost approximately £1000, was hampered by the number of calls the ambulance service had received from people who saw the woman fall.
A further two vehicles were on standby to ferry passengers to the beach and there was also a rescue helicopter on standby on board.
A spokeswoman for police said: “The woman sustained serious injuries and suffered a cut on her arm.
“She was taken to Ceredigion Hospital with the injuries and condition being described as critical.
