Kemp signs on for victory with 49ers
But the 49ers have been playing good football of late, and in the wake of Kaepernick’s protest, they will finally receive their due.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Kaepernick remains a big part of his plans for how to bring back a defense that finished 13th in the league in points allowed per game last year.
“If you want to be a football team, your quarterback gets you there. I just don’t know when it’s time for me to sit back and say you’re just going to wait for the next game,” Harbaugh said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
So why don’t the 49ers sit back and wait for the next game?
They could, of course, have done nothing.
Kaepernick said he is simply exercising his right to sit when he believes players and coaches do not respect him in an NFL locker room and do not respect his protests.
Some may question Kaepernick’s right to protest on national television.
He could, if the San Francisco 49ers are willing to put their time into preparing for an opponent that Kaepernick thinks he can beat.
He could, however, sit back and sit for another game.
That would put him on the same page as the team that drafted him out of Arizona State.
The 49ers will do everything in their power to give Kaepernick his day in the sun, even if it puts them on the losing end of a game that is tied up in controversy.
“Hopefully you see a lot of our players come out and do the things they’re doing because we appreciate it,” Harbaugh said. “As coaches and players, if we can get them to feel like we value our players, they come on board.
“It’s the same deal in a locker room. When you’re doing something and it’s not going to get you where you want to go or what you want to do, that’s what’s wrong with the locker room in terms of that. That’s the one thing that comes out when you try to run it as far as that.
“I do worry that people can become very divisive. I don’t know if that will be here all the time, but some of those things may become really polarized or personal in some people’s minds and they can get a little personal. They can be nasty and get personal. That’s not healthy for football players. That’s not healthy for this country as a place or the kind of players that we need.”
That’s definitely not the case with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
He says it’s time for his team to play better football. He says it’s time for them to sit back and look past the protest.
